What the developer says
Ammerow: Lands Beyond was developed with substantial AI assistance under human direction, selection and review. The music was created with Claude Compose, a bespoke composition system built for this project. Anthropic’s Claude assisted by writing and running code that arranges melody, harmony, counterpoint and orchestration note by note. The compositions were rendered using licensed virtual instruments in Ableton Live, then analysed and refined. No generative-audio or generative-music model was used. Every piece was directed, reviewed and approved by a human. The sound effects are an original, human-directed procedural synthesis library. Claude Code assisted in writing custom Python digital-signal-processing software and individual cue recipes. Waveforms were deterministically rendered from mathematical models and recorded seeds. No recordings, performers, samples, stock audio, sample libraries or generative-audio service were used to create the effects. Ammerow is designed primarily as a coloured ASCII game. Detailed creature, item and shopkeeper illustrations began as AI-generated source images, selected and reviewed under human direction, then converted through a deterministic ASCII-art pipeline. The optional Hybrid presentation offers 32×32 and 64×64 sprites made by cropping and sampling those same source illustrations. Neither conversion process uses additional image generation, but both retain their AI-generated source provenance. Terrain and subjects without sprite bindings use ordinary ASCII glyphs; inspection cards and shopkeepers retain their ASCII illustrations. No inherited Angband tilesets are included. Some narrative, gameplay data and other player-facing material were developed with AI assistance under human direction and review. AI coding assistants also contributed to the game’s software and production tools. Some Steam marketing backgrounds were created using OpenAI image-generation tools, then selected, reviewed and combined with deterministic Ammerow branding by the developer. All AI-assisted content is prepared in advance. The game does not generate content using AI models or connect to AI services during gameplay.

| AI judgment deepseek-flash | Major AI · solid production, high confidenceReasoningThe disclosure states in-game illustrations originate from AI-generated source images, and some narrative and gameplay data were AI-assisted, covering several major asset types. Music and sound effects were human-directed with no generative audio models, and all content is pre-rendered rather than live-generated. Only one game in 12 months, so no volume-release pattern. Against: Substantial human direction, review and custom tooling are described; audio is procedural and human-approved, and AI content is prepared in advance rather than generated during play. |
